Uttarakhand to incorporate major changes in curriculum of schools

The state government has set up a state curriculum framework to draft the outline of the changed curriculum in the schools of the state

The textbooks and the syllabus of the schools in the BJP ruled Uttarakhand are in for a major change. The information about ancient Indian knowledge, culture and skill development would be the part of the syllabus in the state now. The Uttarakhand government has set up a state curriculum framework (SCF) to draft the outline of the changed curriculum in the schools of the state.

The education minister Dhan Singh Rawat took a meeting with the officers of the education department on Monday in which the SCF was discussed. In the meeting the minister directed the officers to make necessary preparations to implement the New Education Policy (NEP) in the state from July this year. Incidentally Uttarakhand would be the first state in the country to implement the NEP. He said that Uttarakhand has constituted SCF on the lines of National Curriculum Framework (NCF) as per the guidelines of the NEP. He said that the new curriculum would have contents from Indian knowledge and culture, skill development and ideals of the state. The Minister added that suggestions have been invited from the educationalists, subject experts, teachers and parents for framing new curriculum. He said that under the new curriculum the virtues such as creativity, logical decisions and innovations would be inculcated into the students. Apart from this special emphasis would be on the reach of education, equality and quality of education which will ensure increase in total enrolments in the schools. 

The in charge of SCF and joint director, Pradip Rawat and deputy director Shalendra Amoli gave a powerpoint presentation on the SCF. They informed that the SCF has been set up on the NCF under the NEP-2020 and the preparations are in the last stages for this. Pradip Rawat said that three stage processes are being followed for SCF. In the first stage a mobile App survey was done at block level. Similarly inputs have been taken by the district consultation committees at district level and focus group on 25 points at state level. Apart from this a steering committee at the state level has been set up which on the basis of inputs from state and NCF would prepare the SCF after which new syllabuses would be prepared. Amoli said that district consultancy committees have submitted reports on designated four areas, school education, early care and education, teacher education and adult education. He said that 3811 surveys have been completed at the block levels by 293 trained surveyors. These surveys are as per the national norms. In the meeting the minister was informed that activities of the SCF are being uploaded in the tech platform as per the NEP-2020.

The meeting was attended by director education (Secondary) R S Kunwar, director SCERT Seema Jaunsari, director (Primary) Vandana Gabriyal, additional director SCERT R D Sharma, R K Uniyal and others.
