UKD protests outside SSP office over spiralling crime

Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) workers gheraoed the office of the senior superintendent of police in Dehradun on Wednesday while protesting the deteriorating law and order and surging crimes against women, in particular.
Police stopped the activists by putting up barricades outside the SSP office and this triggered a heated argument between the police and the agitators. Later, the agitators served a memorandum to the director general of police (DGP), Uttarakhand through the City CO.
Addressing the UKD activists, a senior leader, Praveen Ramola said that the continuous brazen murders have made the common people, particularly women, feel deeply insecure. “Law and order has broken down completely,” he said. He cited the murder in Rishikesh and the broad day- light murder in bustling Paltan Bazaar. “Both women had earlier informed the police about threats to their lives, but no effective action was taken in time. Prompt actions could have saved their lives,” he said.
Another leader, Kiran Rawat cited the murder of a Class XII student in Vikasnagar and claimed that the criminals have ceased to fear police. “Things have come to such a pathetic pass that parents are afraid to send their daughters out alone,” Rawat said.
In the memorandum, UKD demanded a fair and high-level investigation into all murder cases, immediate arrest, strict punishment for the accused, and strong action against the negligent police officers.
