UCC fulfills dream of a State conserving culture, language & tradition: CM

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that by implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand, the State government has ensured equal rights for the citizens of the State and has fulfilled the dream of the statehood activists about a state conserving the culture, language and traditions.
He was addressing a programme organised to pay tributes to the martyrs on 31st anniversary of Mussoorie firing incident at Mussoorie on Tuesday.
He said that the State government is working with determination to make Uttarakhand, the dreams of the statehood activists, a reality.
Paying tributes to the martyrs of Mussoorie firing incident, Balbir Singh Negi, Belmati Chauhan, Hansa Dhanai, Dhanpat Singh, Rai Singh Bangari and Madan Mohan Mamgai, the CM said that September 2, 1994 is marked as a black chapter in the history of the State. On this day, the agitators who were demonstrating peacefully in Mussoorie were greeted with bullets by the Police.
“The Mussoorie incident was a symbol of the repressive attitude of the ruling parties of that time, who tried to crush a peaceful movement mercilessly,’’ he said.
Dhami said that the State government has given benefits of 10 per cent horizontal reservation to the statehood activists and their dependents in government jobs. He said that apart from pensions, the State government has made the arrangement of free education in schools and colleges to the children of statehood activists and given the facility of free travel in buses of state transport corporation.
The CM said that to provide employment opportunities with transparency to the youth, the country’s most effective anti-copying law was implemented in the State and more than 25,000 youngsters were provided jobs in a transparent manner in different departments of the State government.
Dhami added that the State government is also committed to protect the demography of Uttarakhand and for this, a strict anti-conversion law was implemented in the State and more than nine thousand acres of government land was freed from encroachment.
The government has also enacted a strict anti-riot law to teach a lesson to the rioters and has also made them compensate for the losses caused in the riots.
He said that recently, the government has decided to abolish the Madrasa Board in the State by implementing a new law and more than 250 madrasas operating illegally in the state have also been closed. Dhami said that the State government is also taking strict action through ‘Operation Kalnemi’ against the hypocrites defaming the Sanatan culture.
Cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi, Chairwoman of Mussoorie municipal council Meera Saklani and others attended the programme.
