After reviewing the current law and order situation in Nainital district, the district magistrate Lalit Mohan Raiyal passed orders in cases related to the Goonda Act. Based on police reports, orders have been issued to keep two individuals out of the district for six months. Besides, names of several others who had been earlier booked under the act have been removed following satisfactory police reports. Explaining the withdrawal order, the DM said that there was no
immediate threat to public peace from them as per the police reports. “So we have dropped the ongoing Goonda Act proceedings against them,” he added.
On the other hand, the DM issued an order, declaring Shahrukh, resident of Indira Nagar under Vanbhulpura police station limits, and Naveen Singh Rawat, resident of Dak Bungalow Ward No 1 under Kaladhungi police station limits, as goons for six months on the basis of police report and ordering them to stay out of the limits of Nainital district. “This decision has been taken following detailed assessment of the facts, police report and current circumstances. We want peace and order be maintained and effective compliance of the law be ensured in the district,” the DM said.
