The police on Wednesday arrested two interstate drug peddlers with smack worth over Rs 31 lakh. The accused, identified as Furqan (20) and Mohammad Farman (19) were arrested after the police recovered 410 grammes of smack during the intensive checking campaign in the Selaqui area which was being conducted as part of arrangements of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.

The superintendent of police (Rural) Lokjeet Singh said that both accused had been involved in smuggling drugs to people in target industrial areas and young students in educational institutions in Dehradun. They belong to Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly area from where they used to buy smack at cheap prices and sell them at exorbitant prices in Dehradun and other cities. The SP said that they had allegedly come to Dehradun on Wednesday to sell smack to some students but the police caught them during checking. The police have registered a case against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and will soon present them before the court, SP added.
