The Tungnath Temple, the world’s highest temple of Lord Shiv situated at an altitude of 12,800 feet in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, is tilting. This fact has come to the fore following the study of the temple by Archeological Survey of India. It is learnt that the temple is tilting by 5 to 6 degrees while the smaller structures in the temple complex have been tilting by 10 degrees. Interestingly, the Badri Kedar Temple Committee and other stakeholders have opposed the ASI’s proposal to declare the shrine a national monument. They said that they have been conserving the temple for years. They further said that they would oppose the proposition of handing it over to ASI.
