PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

In order to give a new direction to the cooperative movement in India and to create new employment opportunities for the youth, the Central government had proposed the establishment of Tribhuvan Sahkari University.  With the passage of the Tribhuvan Cooperative University Bill, 2025 from both the Houses of Parliament, this dream is now a reality. Chairman of National Cooperative Union of India and IFFCO, Dileep Sanghani said that the establishment of the university will not only promote cooperative education, research and training, but will also help in making the cooperative sector more professional and effective.

A landmark move, this institution will take cooperative education to a new level, making the functioning of cooperative institutions more professional, modern and effective. It will provide an alternative and attractive career option to the youth. Students who obtain a degree or diploma from a university will be given preference in cooperatives, making it an attractive career option, he said. Set to come up at the Institute of Rural Management (IRMA) in Anand, Gujarat, the university will be the first to offer higher education in the cooperative sector. The courses will be particularly practical and job-oriented. By imparting vocational education in the cooperative sector, the university will provide specialised education to the youth in cooperative management, financial inclusion, cooperative marketing, digital cooperatives and other subjects.

Cooperatives will be made more effective and competitive through professional training and latest research. The use of digital technologies, data analytics and artificial intelligence will connect cooperatives with modern technological ways of operations.

The university will partner with international cooperative organisations to make the Indian cooperative sector globally competitive, Sanghani added.
