The Transport department conducted an enforcement operation in various areas of Dehradun, resulting in the issuance of 171 challans to private buses from other States. Of these, 42 buses were impounded for failing to obtain an aggregator license required for online ticket booking.
The regional transport officer (Enforcement and Road Safety) for the Dehradun division, Anita Chamola said that complaints have been received regarding buses from other States, carrying passengers who booked tickets online, from ISBT and other locations in Dehradun , Rishikesh, Haridwar and Roorkee in an unauthorised manner. These buses are operating like stage carriages in violation of permit conditions.
In response, the Transport department has been conducting ongoing checking campaigns through four mobile teams and four bike squads in areas such as ISBT, Mohkampur and Haridwar Bypass. So far, the operation has led to the issuance of 171 challans of private buses, of these, 42 buses were impounded.
Chamola said that it was found that these buses from companies like Neogo, Flix, Zing, Yolobus and Leafybus are being booked through online platforms like Redbus and Goibibo. According to the Uttarakhand On-Demand, it is mandatory for these companies to obtain an aggregator license for online ticket bookings. The Transport department is actively taking enforcement action against vehicles and aggregators that violate this rule.
While companies like Ola, Uber and Rapido have obtained the required aggregator licenses, many others have not, allowing private bus operators to transport passengers based on online bookings without the necessary licenses. There have also been reports of passengers being picked up from various locations like stage carriages through these unauthorised online bookings, she said.
“The Transport Department is taking steps to address these violations, which can often inconvenience the general public. Citizens are urged to book their travels through authorised and licensed aggregators or travel agents,” Chamola said.
She emphasised that continuous action will be taken against vehicle operators and aggregators who fail to obtain the required aggregator licenses for online ticket bookings.
