The Transport department has received about 4,000 applications from drivers, conductors and cleaners working in public transportation to be registered as the beneficiaries in the second phase of the monetary aid programme of the state government.

The department had invited applications from such potential beneficiaries working in public transportation whose livelihoods were affected due to the Covid curfew this year to provide monthly financial help of Rs 2,000 for the next six months except for those associated with Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC). After marking a total of 36,100 beneficiaries during the first phase of the programme from August 11 to September 5, the department commenced the registration for such potential beneficiaries in the second phase from October 12 to 31 who failed to apply before.

The deputy transport commissioner Sanat Kumar Singh informed that in the past two weeks, the department has received over 3,500 applications from drivers, conductors and cleaners to be the beneficiaries of the monetary aid programme.

According to the data provided by the department, it has received about 4,000 new applications in the second phase so far and Dehradun, Haridwar and Haldwani are the top three cities with the most applicants. The transport office in Dehradun has received over 738 applications including about 689 from drivers, 46 from cleaners and three from conductors. Haridwar has received over 552 applications including 522 from drivers, 30 from cleaners but none from conductors. Haldwani has received over 460 applications including about 409 from drivers, 40 from cleaners and 10 from conductors. The top three cities with the least number of applications for monetary aid are Bageshwar with over 36 applications, Rudrapur with 17 applications and Ranikhet with zero applications. Kumar also informed that the department is expecting registrations of about 25,000 new potential beneficiaries in the second phase of the programme.

Recently, the department also asked about 5,000 applicants, who were approved to be the beneficiaries during the first phase, to apply again due to certain errors in bank account details and Indian Financial System Codes (IFSC) provided by the applicants. As informed earlier by Kumar, many banks have merged in recent times due to which the old IFSC codes have become invalid for online transactions. Since the software does not have a separate category to keep such applications separately from others, the department has asked such beneficiaries to apply again as the whole scheme is associated with the software. However, the commissioner clarified that such applications are being processed separately and are not included in the data as fresh applicants in the second phase.
