The Transport department has postponed the meeting of the regional transport authority of Dehradun which was proposed to be held on January 15 to discuss the commencement of CNG-powered auto rickshaws and Vikrams in Dehradun and Rishikesh among other issues. The regional transport officer (administration) Dinesh Pathoi informed on Thursday that the department had proposed a meeting headed by the Garhwal commissioner Sushil Kumar regarding the operation of CNG powered three-wheelers- auto rickshaws and Vikrams to reduce the level of pollution as per the directions of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) but it has been postponed due to certain reasons.  Rising cases of Covid-19 is also one of the reasons as many RTO officials and staff workers were recently found Covid positive in Dehradun.  It is pertinent to mention here that NGT has directed the department to start the operation of CNG-operated auto rickshaws and Vikrams which are the most used public transport across the district stating that the city now has stations of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and operation of such vehicles must be promoted here.  The senior officials will discuss whether the department should issue new permits or just convert the old ones in the meeting among other issues too. The officials informed that the meeting will most likely be held within the next two weeks.
