Transport department says no bus allowed to pick or drop passengers near ISBT

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

Considering the increasing use of private buses to carry passengers from near ISBT in Dehradun against the law, the Transport department has announced that no bus will be allowed to pick up or drop passengers in or around the ISBT area under any circumstances. Such buses will also not be allowed to park on main roads or at locations where traffic movement can be obstructed. The department will take strict action against such violations, the regional transport officer (Enforcement and Road Safety) of Dehradun division Anita Chamola said.

She informed that the department has been conducting a special checking campaign since October 5 against buses operating without permits, without paying taxes or using online booking platforms without obtaining the mandatory aggregator license. She said that 12 teams have been deployed for morning and night inspections under the supervision of the enforcement division. Chamola held a meeting with private bus owners and operators at the RTO on Wednesday.

During the meeting, operators were instructed to conduct online bookings only through validly licensed aggregators and authorised travel agencies. Buses must operate from designated parking spaces, not from roadsides or unauthorised spots. The department also directed that no bus should operate without a valid permit and tax clearance and electric buses must charge only at authorised charging stations. During the ongoing enforcement drive, the department has issued challans to over 75 buses and seized 21 buses for violations around ISBT, Turner Road and Haridwar Bypass.
