Friday 15, 2021| PNS | Dehradun

The fares of the public transportation might be raised by the end of this month as the transport department has planned to discuss the fares in the meeting of the State Transport Authority (STA) scheduled for October 23. Various transport associations across the state have been demanding the department to increase the fares of public transports like city buses, Roadways buses, Vikrams, autorickshaws and cabs among others for the past few years. Some unions also approached the department recently to demand an increase in the fare stating that their business was affected during the pandemic and the fuel prices have also increased considerably in the recent months. Considering this, the department formed a committee headed by the regional transport officer (RTO) Dinesh Chandra Pathoi to draft a proposal for raising the fare of public transportation in the state. This proposal will be presented in the meeting of STA. The secretary of STA and deputy commissioner of the department, Sanat Kumar Singh informed that the committee will present the proposal on October 23 and the final decision will be taken only after thorough discussion with other officials in the meeting.
