PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun
The Transport department started counselling on Thursday for drivers who will operate on the Char Dham routes to ensure the safe and smooth operation of vehicles during the pilgrimage season. The initiative aims to provide essential training for drivers navigating the challenging mountainous roads, the regional transport officer (Administration) of Dehradun division and Char Dham nodal officer Sandeep Saini said.
He informed that the department has established dedicated green card centres at multiple locations including Asharodi in Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh and Narson in Roorkee. Through these centres, the drivers are receiving special training facilitated by experts from the Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR) based in Jhajra, Dehradun. Saini said that the training programme focuses on the precautions drivers need to take while operating vehicles on the rugged and narrow Himalayan routes. It also imparts necessary knowledge about maintaining passenger safety during the journey, he said.
He informed that the sessions began on Thursday that included audio-visual content to reinforce the message and improve understanding. This effort is part of a broader initiative to make the Char Dham pilgrimage safer for both drivers and passengers. The counselling aims to equip drivers with the skills and knowledge required to navigate the difficult terrain with confidence, ensuring a smooth and secure travel experience for all, he added.
