The Transport department issued 106 challans and seized 20 vehicles near Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) of Dehradun and its surrounding areas during a two-day enforcement drive. Acting on the directions of regional transport officer (Enforcement) Anita Chamola, the Dehradun enforcement team conducted intensive checking operations in response to repeated complaints about congestion and illegal vehicle operations and parking in and around the ISBT area.
Chamola informed that the campaign was carried out during both daytime and nighttime hours, with special focus from 6 PM to midnight and again from 4 AM to 8 AM. She said that a total of 55 vehicles were penalised and 13 were seized specifically from the ISBT zone and nearby locations for either not operating as per rules or for illegal roadside parking. Among the violations, six buses were issued challans and two large buses were seized for unauthorised operations. Besides this, two buses of the Uttar Pradesh Transport Corporation were also fined for contributing to traffic jams in the ISBT area, she said.
Chamola stated that the department has directed the department concerned to install ‘No Parking’ and ‘No Stopping’ boards in the ISBT area to prevent further violations. She said that the department has been acting actively against such complaints and violations that cause inconvenience to commuters. The department will continue to conduct such drives in the future to ensure traffic discipline and ease congestion in key areas of the city, she added.
