Tourist footfall in Nainital rises with summer heat

Monday, 22 May 2023 | PNS | NAINITAL

The number of tourists arriving in Nainital is rising consistently with the rise in summer heat in the plains. The hill station is crowded throughout the day by visitors with the summer temperatures rising. One of the popular tourist spots- the cave garden is being visited by a considerable number of people with the majority of the tourists visiting this spot along with the zoo. On Sunday, 1,515 tourists visited the zoo while 1,491 people visited the cave garden. Apart from this, 996 persons visited the woodland waterfall situated on the Nainital-Kaladhungi motor road. Further, 378 persons visited the botanical garden whereas 856 persons used the cable car.

It is pertinent to mention here that while the large number of tourists arriving in Nainital are a welcome development for traders and others depending on tourism for the livelihoods, the crowds also cause considerable inconvenience to the local residents. The authorities have taken some measures to tackle the situation but have so far not succeeded in ensuring the convenience of both the tourists and the local residents. Traffic congestion, increased garbage generation and other issues are now common features resulting from increased tourist footfall in Nainital.
