Three killed after pickup falls down mountainside into Yamuna at Damta

Three persons died when the pickup vehicle they were travelling into the Yamuna river near Chami in Damta area of Uttarkashi on Monday. The pickup vehicle HP 17G 0319 was transporting groceries from Vikasnagar to Purola-Mori when the mishap occurred.

According to sources, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle near Chami. The pickup fell down the mountainside and landed in the Yamuna. The locals informed the police and local administration about the accident. The police and State Disaster Response Force personnel reached the site and managed to extricate the three bodies from the river. Those who lost their lives have been identified as Naushad, Pravin Jain and Ajay Shah, all residents of Jivangarh in Vikasnagar area of Dehradun district.

The families of the three men were informed about the mishap and the bodies were sent for post mortem examination. The police have started an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident. Meanwhile, following the accident, the locals have asked the authorities to strengthen safety features on this route.
