Three illegal Madarsas sealed in Haridwar district

Continuing action on illegal Madarsas operating in the State, the authorities sealed three unregistered Madarsas in Haridwar district on Saturday.  The action was taken by a team headed by the sub divisional magistrate Jitendra Kumar along with officials of the district administration and police.

The team checked Madarsas operating in various locations without permission and valid documentation. A Madarsa in the Mohitpur area in Bhagwanpur was found to be operating without registration. The district administration reached the site along with police force and sealed the illegal establishment. Similarly, another Madarsa in the Makkhanpur area of Bhagwanpur was also probed.

The authorities found that the said establishment was not registered and was being operated illegally. The team headed by the sub divisional magistrate sealed this Madarsa. The authorities checked various Madarsas in different locations. A Madarsa in the Halumajra area was probed and it was confirmed that the establishment was being operated without registration and valid documentation. Finding the establishment and its operation illegal, the authorities sealed this Madarsa.

It is pertinent to mention here that at a time when the threats posed by Islamic extremism have elicited focus once again in the wake of the Pahalgam massacre, the authorities in Uttarakhand have continued action against illegal Madarsas. The government has clarified that such establishments can operate after registration with the Madarsa board and while following the due procedure. Observers have repeatedly raised concerns at the ‘teaching’ in such illegal Madarsas.
