Three dead, three injured as bikes collide head-on
Three persons including a minor were killed and three persons were injured in a head-on collision between two motorcycles near Piran Kaliyar on the Roorkee-Gangnahar road. According to the eye witnesses, both the motorcycles were speeding when the mishap occurred. The villagers who witnessed the accident informed the police.
The Roorkee police circle officer Chandan Singh Bisht, who reached the accident site along with police personnel said that on Wednesday evening, 23 years old Deepak was going from Buggawala towards Roorkee with his sister Rita and her three children on one motorcycle. When the motorcycle approached Sohalpur village, it collided head-on with another motorcycle being driven by 26 year old Ankit. The collision was such that Deepak, his six year old niece Charanjeet and Ankit died on the spot. The three injured were taken to the civil hospital for treatment. While Ankit was a mechanic by profession, Deepak was working in a factory.
Observers point out that yet again, a fatal accident has elicited focus on the danger posed by violation of basic traffic regulations. In this case, one rider was carrying one adult and three children on his motorcycle. Eye witnesses also averred that both the motorcycles were speeding. Had both the riders followed basic traffic rules, the accident and three deaths could possibly have been averted.
