Three arrested by vigilance for taking bribe in RTO office
Bursting a corruption scandal in the office of Dehradun Regional Transport Office (RTO), the Uttarakhand Vigilance team has arrested two brokers and one RTO official (chief assistant) on Thursday. They are accused of taking a bribe of Rs 6,000 from the victim for altering the status of his tractor from agricultural to commercial. The arrested Chief Assistant, Yashveer Singh Bisht is also the president of Transport Ministerial Karmchari Association.
The other two accused arrested have been identified as Pradeep, resident of Sahastradhara and second accused Monu Malik alias Sandeep Kumar resident of Mohabbewala.
According to the information provided by police headquarters, on November 19 they received a complaint stating that he drives a tractor for agriculture basis. On the same day, he had gone to the RTO office for submitting the required documents and fees, to use his tractor for commercial purpose. He was then asked to go to counter number 4, where instead of chief assistant Yashveer Singh Bisht another person Monu was sitting. Monu asked for extra Rs 6,000 apart from the routine fees as a bribe and asked the complainant to come on Thursday.
Upon receiving the complaint and verifying it to be correct, the vigilance team established a trap team. On November 21, when the complainant went to give the bribe money to Monu at counter number 4, Monu took the money and gave complainants file to another agent Pradeep Kumar, who was already present at the counter. The accused were caught red-handed by the trap team, they have been booked under compatible sections.
