In latest news from Uttarakhand, in a ghastly road mishap, at least eight persons were killed and three others were seriously injured as the pickup van they were travelling in skidded off the road and crashed into a 500-meter-deep gorge at around 8.30 am in Okhalkanda block of Nainital district. It is learnt that the accident occurred near Dal Kanya village when the vehicle was heading towards Haldwani from Adhora. The villagers living in the vicinity of the accident site rushed out on hearing screams and plunged into rescue work. They later informed the Khansu police post. Police said that the bodies had been retrieved from the gorge and those injured, transported to the Haldwani hospital.
