Temperatures set to rise again across State

After a brief period of rain providing relief from the heat, the temperatures are set to rise again in the State with the maximum expected to reach 40 degrees Celsius in the plains during the coming days. The monsoon generally reaches parts of Uttarakhand by June 20 though the date of its arrival will depend on how it progresses from Kerala. Meanwhile, the State meteorological centre has forecast that very light to light rainfall/thunderstorm are likely to occur at isolated places especially in higher reaches of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts on Tuesday. Apart from this, dry weather is likely to prevail in the remaining districts.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to experience mainly clear sky with the maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be about 37 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius respectively on Tuesday.

The State meteorological centre director Bikram Singh said that from June 1 to June 8-10 the weather in the State is likely to remain clear. There may be some isolated incidents of rain and thunder in parts of the state. However, the temperature is likely to rise once again and by June 8-10 the maximum temperatures in the plains may reach 40 to 42 degrees Celsius while in the mountains it may reach 30 degrees Celsius. He further said that though the monsoon generally reaches parts of Uttarakhand by June 20, whether it arrives early or late by a few days will be known later. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at various places on Monday were 36.3 degrees Celsius and 24.6 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 36.4 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 25.7 degrees Celsius and 13.9 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 27 degrees Celsius and 15 degrees Celsius respectively in New Tehri.
