Tehri celebrates World Environment Day through slew of programs

To mark the World Environment Day, several programmes, including tree plantation, cleanliness drives, seminars, races and environmental protection and voter awareness oath, were organised across Tehri district. A tree plantation programme was organised under the aegis of the Forest department in New Tehri under the campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’. The programme was presided over by the Tehri chief development officer, Varuna Agarwal while senior officials, public representatives, social workers and eco activists besides the local people planted plants of different species.
The DFO, Tehri Forest Division, Puneet Tomar said that 200 saplings of different species had been planted during the commemorative programme, adding that this area would be developed as a model by planting deodar saplings.
Earlier, a cross country race was organised under the joint aegis of the district Sports department and Youth Welfare department under ‘Run for Environment’. On this occasion, Varuna Aggarwal administered the oath of environmental protection and voter awareness to all present before flagging off the race.
