Those targeted by accused are depressed and not in condition to record statements, say police

A municipal college teacher was arrested by the police for allegedly harassing girl students physically and mentally. It is alleged that he was sending obscene messages to some of the college students on WhatsApp.

According to official sources, a complaint was submitted by the college principal in the Haridwar city police station regarding mental and physical harassment of girl students by Sunil Kumar, a teacher of Panna Lal Bhalla Municipal College located in Haridwar city Kotwali area. The initial investigation into the allegations was conducted through the Haridwar municipal commissioner. The accused teacher was suspended and a case was registered under the relevant sections. The teacher had been absconding since then.

According to superintendent of police (Crime) Rekha Yadav, a few days ago a complaint was lodged by the principal of Panna Lal Bhalla Municipal College in Haridwar Kotwali. Considering the seriousness of the matter, the police immediately registered the case and started the investigation. The teacher was called to give his statement.  But the teacher did not reach the police station to give his statement. The police also pasted a notice at the teacher’s residence in this matter. However, since the accused was not cooperating in the police investigation he was arrested on the directions of the senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh.

According to the police, the girl students to whom he allegedly sent the objectionable messages are depressed and traumatised by the experience and not in a condition to record their statements at present.
