PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
The Transport department will hold a meeting with taxi operators to ensure disputes between Kanwadiyas, other pilgrims and transporters do not arise due to overrating during Kanwad Yatra that will commence on July 11.
Taxi operators will also be asked to display fare lists on their vehicles, the regional transport officer (Enforcement) of Dehradun division Anita Chamola said. She informed that fare-related issues frequently occur during the Char Dham Yatra and Kanwad Yatra period, especially in the form of overrating by commercial vehicles. To prevent such disputes, taxi drivers will be instructed in the meeting to prominently display official fare lists on their vehicles. Action will be taken against those who fail to comply.
Chamola stated that the Kanwad Yatra is a large-scale pilgrimage during which thousands of Kanwadias visit Haridwar and nearby areas and simultaneously, pilgrims travelling for the Char Dham Yatra also pass through these areas.
To manage the increased movement of people and vehicles during this period, the department has completed its preparations. She said, “Routine checking drives will be conducted throughout the Yatra to ensure compliance with transport rules. The department also plans to install large hoardings along the Kanwad Yatra routes to raise awareness among Kanwadiyas about traffic regulations and road safety.
