The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday held a protest outside the vigilance department office claiming that no concrete action has been taken by authorities in the case of alleged disproportionate assets of Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’.
The spokesman of the party Ravindra Anand said that the matter of the mayor’s disproportionate assets came to light in March through information retrieved by an RTI activist under the Right To Information Act. He said that it showed how ‘Gama’ has reportedly acquired assets worth crores illegally since he became the mayor. He said, “Our party also gave a memorandum to the vigilance department three months ago to look into this matter and take action accordingly but nothing has been done so far. The department has also not made us aware of any development in the case.
The public that elected the mayor has a complete right to know how the mayor used his position to acquire assets illegally.” Anand said that they met the circle officer of vigilance Purnima Garg who assured them that the department is investigating the matter and will make them aware of developments soon. The party members said that if no concrete action will be taken in the matter, AAP will hold a massive protest in the city.
