PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Rudrapur

To expedite the ongoing National Highway widening work meant to spare the residents the frequent traffic jam woes, the Rudrapur mayor Vikas Sharma, along with ADM Pankaj Upadhyay and District Development Authority’s vice- chairman Jai Kishan and municipal commissioner Shipra Joshi Pandey, conducted a site inspection of the stretch from Indira Chowk to DD Chowk on Wednesday. A number of senior officers from the Public Works Department, Irrigation Department and Power Department accompanied them during the inspection.

During the inspection, the mayor expressed concern over the slow progress of the work and assessed the obstacles on the spot. The joint team also completed the demarcation of the land belonging to the municipal corporation and other government departments that is being acquired for the highway widening work. The mayor said that the work is now expected to proceed smoothly after this final demarcation.

Notably, though the widening work has been underway from Indira Chowk to DD Chowk for the past two months,  it is  yet to gain the desired pace due to some technical difficulties coming in the way. The mayor also discussed the Kashipur bypass widening project with the officials.

“Things are expected to speed up after the technical issues are resolved.  We have asked the Power department to relocate the poles immediately which have been impeding the progress of the work,” he said.

He further said that along with the NH widening work, they have drawn up plans for beautification. “Drains, footpaths and protective walls will be constructed on both sides of the road. These walls will feature attractive artworks depicting Uttarakhand’s rich culture, enhancing the town’s overall appearance,” he said.
