Meerut residents Dinesh Talwar and his wife Disha Talwar, who have been campaigning for a law to check population growth, reached Har Ki Paidi here and reiterated their demand on Sunday.
The Talwar couple stated that they began advocating against the rising population in 1994. Despite their efforts, the population growth continues and India has now overtaken China. They have been demanding the implementation of a ‘two-child law’, emphasising that this campaign is in the national interest and transcends caste and religion. They highlighted that resources are limited while the population continues to grow.
They also expressed concern at the increasing population exerting considerable pressure on resources, which could lead to an explosive situation at any time. Over the past 30 years, they have conducted walks in more than 300 cities to motivate the common man to control population growth.
The Talwars said that they have repeatedly submitted memorandums to the successive Prime Ministers and leaders of major opposition parties, advocating for the two-child law as essential for national interest. They said that they have also sought an appointment with PM Narendra Modi but have not received any response yet.
