ACS directs banks to meet credit targets in SLBC meet

The additional chief secretary (ACS), Anand Bardhan has directed the banks of the State to meet 75 per cent of their annual targets of  disbursing loans by the end of December. He was presiding over the 83rd meeting of the State level bankers committee (SLBC) at the secretariat here on Thursday. He said that the loan applications received under the PM Swanidhi scheme should be disposed of till November 30.

He directed the officers to prepare a report after examining the overlapping of the loan schemes of the state and Union government under Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). The ACS asked the banks to achieve the targets in the government sponsored credit schemes, dispose off the pending loan applications, increasing the credit linkages of Self Help Groups (SHGs) and sending the loan applications to the private banks by government departments under the special component plan (SCP). He said that the banks should encourage the financial inclusion by opening new branches in the remote locations in mountainous areas of the State.
It was disclosed in the meeting that the Union government has sent a list of 103 villages in the State which do not have a bank in an area of five kilometres and this list has been sent to the district cooperative banks for examining the prospects of opening branch there. The officers said that Almora and Chamoli districts are leading in achieving the target of 100 per cent digital payment ecosystem. In Almora 99 per cent bank accounts have been digitised while the figure is 84 per cent in Chamoli district.

The meeting was attended by Agriculture secretary BVRC Purushottam, additional secretary C Ravishankar, regional director Lata Vishwanath, coordinator of SLBC, DS Rawat and others.
