Railways completes electrification of BG routes in Uttarakhand

Northern Railways has completed the electrification of the entire Broad Gauge (BG) routes in Uttarakhand as part of its plan to become the largest green railway network in the world. The officials said that 182 trains of Moradabad division run on electricity, out of which 82 trains run in Uttarakhand. They said that now all railway stations in Dehradun, Rishikesh, Haridwar and Kotdwar which are part of the Moradabad division have been 100 per cent electrified which will improve rail connectivity and the speed of trains in the region.

The officials said that Northern Railways is moving towards 100 per cent electrification of BG tracks to reduce the country’s dependence on imported petroleum-based power which will also facilitate the elimination of diesel traction resulting in a significant reduction in its carbon footprint and environmental pollution. They said that Indian Railways has completed 85 per cent electrification work of BG routes in the country and is rapidly progressing to accomplish its mission of 100 per cent electrification of BG routes to become the largest green railway network in the world.
