SW monsoon starts withdrawing from Uttarakhand

After wreaking havoc in many parts of the State, the southwest monsoon started withdrawing from Uttarakhand on Wednesday.

As per the Indian Meteorological department, the line of withdrawal of the southwest monsoon passed through Rampur, Haridwar, Muradabad, Etawah, Banswara, Vallabh, Vidhyanagar and Veraval on Wednesday. The conditions are favourable for further withdrawal of the SW monsoon from more parts of the Uttarakhand in two to three days. The monsoon is expected to withdraw completely from the State on September 25.

Uttarakhand has so far received 24 per cent surplus rain as compared to the average during the monsoon period this year. The data of the IMD shows that the State has received 1,410.8 millimetres of rainfall from June 1, 2025 to September 23, 2025. Bageshwar, Chamoli, Tehri, Haridwar, Almora, Dehradun and Udham Singh Nagar received surplus rains this year while Pauri and Champawat districts received less than average rains during the monsoon period.

 Heavy rains triggered disasters in many parts of the State including Dharali (Uttarkashi), Tharali and Nandanagar ( Chamoli) and Maldevta and Sahastradhara (Dehradun) and other parts of the State. The disaster caused large scale damage to life and property in the State. The Uttarakhand government has estimated a loss to the tune of Rs 5,700 crore due to landslides and flash floods in different parts of the State during the monsoon period. The union government has extended a relief package of Rs 1,200 crore to the State to deal with the natural disaster.
