PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The National Commission for Women (NCW), in partnership with the State Institute for Empowering and Transforming Uttarakhand (SETU) commission, has decided to set up a pre-marital home in the State shortly. Announcing this, the chairperson of Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW), Kusum Kandwal said that NCW had revealed plans to set up the pre-marital home in collaboration with SETU commission at a recent meeting held with them. “The home will be named Tere Mere Sapne and is intended for couples who are preparing for marriage and also their parents. There they may consult and seek guidance regarding their future married life prior to tying the knot,” she said.

She further said that couples and their parents would receive guidance before the wedding on how to address the challenges that may potentially crop up in their married life. “This initiative is meant to reduce the rising divorce rates being seen here over the years,” she added.

According to her, a counsellor will be appointed to provide support to the couples.  “Such homes have already been set up in several other states.  We have discussed the details of the upcoming initiative and it will come up in our State soon,” she said.

Regarding the NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar’s recent visit, Kandwal said that she had met the police brass.  “She is learnt to have stressed on women’s safety and security during the meetings. Apart from this, she also suggested organising awareness programmes for women in their workplaces,” she added.
