Last date to deposit property tax with 20 percent rebate today

Though the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has announced February 15 to be the last date of depositing property tax with 20 percent rebate, the mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ will take the final decision of extending the period of rebate today.

According to the officials, the corporation has collected the property tax to the tune of Rs 23 crore which is quite less than the tax collected by MCD last year in the last 11 months. The corporation has also started conducting camps for property tax collection in various wards and also kept the tax section open for tax submission on Sunday but the tax submission remained low.

Referring to this, the deputy municipal commissioner, Sonia Pant stated that the corporation has sent bills, notices and reminders to the proprietors of various organisations like ISBT and City Junction mall. These taxpayers, especially those who would fail to deposit property tax even after repeated reminders by MCD, will have to pay penalty on their pending dues after March, said Pant. “The operators of ISBT and City Junction mall had to deposit 50 percent of their pending dues of over Rs one crore after multiple notices and reminders of the corporation were sent to them. We have asked them to deposit the pending dues by March 31 or else, they will have to deposit the dues with penalty,” said Pant. The officials said that they are optimistic to achieve the target of the property tax collection of over Rs 50 crore by March 31.
