PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

The leader of opposition (LoP) in Vidhan Sabha Yashpal Arya has demanded judicial probe in the case of suicide of Kashipur farmer Sukhwant Singh. Interacting with the media persons at the headquarters of the State Congress on Monday, Arya said that the suicide of the young farmer is a horrifying evidence of insensitive, cruel and anti-farmer policies of the BJP government. It is not merely a suicide but is a murder of a farmer who was suffering from police atrocities and arrogance of power. The suicide of the farmer is the result of anti-human policies of the State government.

Arya said that one can understand the helplessness of the young farmer on whom the police had shut all doors of justice. He said that the unfortunate incident has devastated a family and rendered innocent children orphans.

The LoP said that the suspension of police post in-charge and some other policemen is an attempt to cover up the crime. Terming the action as inadequate the LoP demanded that the government should order a judicial probe in the case and register a case of abetment for suicide on the police officers involved.  Arya said that the government should provide a compensation of Rs 50 lakh to the family and government job to one member of the family.

He added that the officers involved in the harassment of the farmer should be immediately suspended. Arya averred that farmers are not safe in the Dhami government, there is no guarantee of justice and the police on the insistence of those in power are trying to trounce the innocent.

The LoP said that the Congress party is standing firmly with the family of the farmer and will ensure that those involved in the crime are exposed.
