UPES stated in a communique released to the press on Monday that the university’s students pursuing B Tech in Applied Petroleum Engineering – Gas have developed ‘Flex Fuel’- a solution that combines the power of ethanol with traditional gasoline- laying the groundwork for future advancements in alternative fuels and sustainable energy technologies.

The team comprising Pushpendu Sinha, Rishabh Kinger, Siddharth Raj, Vivek Negi and Varun Singh Kushwaha crafted four grades of Flex Fuel – E10, E20, E30, and E40 – by blending ethanol with gasoline in varying proportions. Some benefits of ethanol blending are environmental sustainability with reduced greenhouse gas emission compared to conventional gasoline, energy security with reduced dependency on fossil fuels and   economic advantages with creation of new revenue streams for farmers.
