Congress smells rat in purchases made by Health Dept

Alleging a scam in the Health department the chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress Garima Dasauni has said that despite the fact that a huge consignment of medicines is being kept in stock in the central store , the health directorate is on a purchasing spree of medicines. She said that it appears as if the only objective of the health department is purchase of medicines and equipment.

Dasauni and spokesperson of the Uttarakhand Congress Sheespal Bisht conducted a surprise inspection of the central medicine store of the department at Chandernagar on Thursday. She said that the inspection was done to get information about the preparation of the department in view of the recent spurt in the cases of Covid 19. She claimed that the equipment purchased during the period of pandemic such as oxygen concentrators, monitors and refrigerators were found staked in the central medicine store but the department has sent a fresh demand of these equipment to the central government. She questioned why demand is being sent at the CMO level when the equipment was purchased at the level of directorate. She alleged that the purchase is being done only to spend the budget and provide help to the favoured ones.

Dasauni said that a new cath lab is being set up in Srinagar but the health department has only one heart specialist and in such a scenario there is no logic behind purchase of  equipment for the Cath lab. The Congress leader said that many newly purchased ambulances of 108 service are lying in the dump yard of the health directorate.

The spokesperson of Congress party Bisht said that on one hand the medicines and equipment worth crores of rupees are dumped in the store and on the other the hospitals in districts and Primary Health Centres are facing a crunch of medicines and equipment.

He said that it gives rise to the suspicion that there is a nexus between the officers and private mafia.
