Covid guidelines to be strictly followed in all aspects of election

With the Election Commission of India announcing the Assembly election schedule in five poll bound states, the Uttarakhand chief electoral officer Sowjanya informed the media in detail about the election schedule and arrangements made in the state for the polling to be held on February 14.

Addressing the media here on Saturday, the CEO informed that the date of issue of notification is January 21. The last date of making nomination will be January 28 after which the same will be scrutinised on the following day. The last date of withdrawal of nomination will be January 31 while the date of polling will be February 14. The votes polled will be counted on March 10 and the election process will be completed on March 12.

She said that as per the ECI directions, no physical rally of any type will be allowed till January 15 and the Covid-19 situation at that time will be taken into consideration before taking a decision on the course of action thereafter.

The ECI has directed that during the electoral process the chief secretary at State level and District Magistrate at District level, shall be primarily responsible for monitoring, supervision and strict enforcement of the Covid guidelines and the guidelines issued by NDMA and respective SDMA/DDMA, whichever is more stringent. Physical rallies during the campaign period, as and when permitted after the decision of the ECI will be conducted subject to adherence to extant Covid-19 guidelines. The maximum limit of persons allowed for indoor and outdoor rally/meeting shall be as per existing direction of respective SDMAs. For these meetings political parties shall distribute masks and sanitisers to persons attending and maintain Covid protocol at entry and exit point. Further, the election expenditure limit per candidate has been revised to Rs 40 lakh in Assembly elections and Rs 95 lakh in parliamentary elections in the state.
