STF arrests two drug smugglers with contraband worth Rs 86 lakh

Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) arrested two smugglers with drugs worth about Rs 86 lakh in the international market in two separate operations in Dehradun and Champawat.

The senior superintendent of police of STF Navneet Singh Bhullar said that in the first case, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) team of STF along with the police, arrested Asif Qureshi (23) of Bareilly at Jogiwala barrier in Dehradun. Police recovered 278 grammes of heroin from his possession. He had allegedly procured the drugs from Bareilly and brought them to Dehradun for sale.

A case has been registered at Nehru Colony police station against him and the investigation is ongoing. The Police headquarters announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for the team involved in the operation, he said.

The SSP stated that in the second case, the ANTF team in Kumaon, with Tanakpur police, arrested Deepak Kumar (35) of Bareilly at Kakarali Gate, Tanakpur. Police recovered 1.208 kilogrammes of charas from him. He told the police that he bought the contraband from a person named Dadu in Khetikhan and supplied it in the plains.

Bhullar said that both smugglers are linked to major drug suppliers in Bareilly and further action is being planned against them and their associates.
