State Tax department collects Rs 13 lakh from fireworks traders

Imposing checks of those not paying Goods and Services Tax (GST), the State Tax department raided various fireworks shops here on Monday evening and collected Rs 13 lakh in revenue from defaulter traders.
On the directions of State Tax commissioner Sonika Singh, the additional tax commissioner (Kumaon zone, Rudrapur) Rakesh Verma and joint commissioner (SIB/Enforcement) Roshe Lal headed two special teams which raided fireworks shops in Haldwani. The purchase and sale records of the traders were checked along with stock and GST invoices.
The checks revealed major irregularities including tax evasion. Finding difference between documents and the actual stock, the department officials collected a revenue of Rs 13 lakh from the defaulter traders.
According to official sources, major irregularities were found in two establishments and these will be probed further. More than 10 departmental officials were involved in the checks conducted in the city. Lal said that tax evasion in business will not be tolerated during the festive season.
Transparent business practices are being encouraged under chief minister Pushksar Singh Dhami’s policy of zero tolerance for corruption, he added. He further said that similar actions will also be taken in the future and urged traders to follow the regulations.
