HC issues notice to Maharashtra Guv

The Uttarakhand high court has served a notice to Maharashtra governor and former Uttarakhand chief minister Bhagat Singh Koshyari for not adhering to court orders. The single bench of justice Sharad Kumar Sharma has also sought Koshyari’s response in four weeks.

It will be recalled that earlier, the petitioner in the PIL, Dehradun based Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra (RLEK) had served a notice to Koshiyari under article 361 (4) of the constitution. This was done as it is necessary to give information two months prior to filing a contempt petition against a governor. After the passing away of this time period, a contempt petition has been filed in the high court.

The petitioner has also stated that in 2019, the high court had directed all the former chief ministers to clear their dues regarding rent for government accommodation and other facilities within six months. However, Koshyari had not done this and hence a contempt petition has been filed in the court against him.
