Covid-19 contagion intensifies in U’khand

More than 2000 cases reported for fifth consecutive day; 24 patients succumb on Monday

The second wave of the contagion of Covid-19 which is sweeping across Uttarakhand is showing no signs of abating. This wave is infecting people with an alarming intensity and is proving fatal. On Monday the state health department reported 2160 new patients of the disease while death of 24 patients of the disease was reported.

What is a cause of great worry is the fact that more than 2000 cases of the disease were reported for the fifth consecutive day on Monday. Out of the 30330 tests done, 2160 cases were reported which put the positivity rate 7.12 percent which is very high.  The cumulative tally of the patients in the state has now mounted to 126193 and the death toll has increased to 1892 in the state.

The health department discharged 532 patients from different hospitals of the state following their recovery from the disease on Monday.  A total of 102899 patients have recovered from the disease in the state and the recovery percentage has now dropped further to 81.54 and the sample positivity rate is 3.75 percent.

The contagion is more intense in plain districts Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital. In Dehradun 649 cases of the disease were reported while 461 new patients surfaced in Haridwar district on Monday. The authorities also reported 322 patients from Nainital, 224 from Udham Singh Nagar, 142 from Tehri,114 from Pauri, 89 from Uttarkashi, 79 from Almora, 32 from Rudraprayag, 22 from Chamoli, seven from Bageshwar and four from Pithoragarh on Monday.

 The state now has 18864 active patients of the disease which is the highest ever since the pandemic started on March 15 last year. Dehradun continues to be at the top of the table of active cases of the disease with 7583 patients, Haridwar has 5310, Nainital 1944, Udham Singh Nagar 1102, Pauri 827, Tehri 670, Almora 308, Rudraprayag 259, Champawat 249, Chamoli 192, Uttarkashi 182, Bageshwar 145 and  Pithoragarh 93 active cases of Covid-19. 

In the vaccination drive 43947 people were vaccinated in different parts of the state on Monday. In the state 250945 people have been fully vaccinated so far as they have received both the first and second dose of the vaccine. 

The Chief Operations Officer (COO) of state Covid-19 control room, Dr Abhishek Tripathi said that 676 vaccine sessions were organised in different parts of the state on Monday.
