To mark the death anniversary of the anti-monarchy activist, freedom fighter and writer from the erstwhile princely state of Tehri Garhwal, Sridev Suman, Suman Diwas was observed across Uttarkashi district on Friday. Commemorative programmes were organised and people from all walks of life paid tributes to the legendary revolutionary while presenting his vision and thoughts to the new generation.
The principal programme was organised at Hanuman Chowk and Collectorate premises inside the district headquarters where many dignitaries, including the district magistrate, Prashant Arya paid floral tributes to Sridev Suman. Among others present were the municipal chairman Bhupendra Chauhan, SDM Bhatwadi Shalini Negi and the president of Sri Dev Suman Sahitya Kala Smriti Manch Nagendra Dutt Thapliyal.
The DM said that the life of Sridev Suman is a symbol of sacrifice for a great cause, truthfulness wedded to non-violence and unwavering determination to cling to the truth he espoused. He stressed on his thoughts reaching the new generation and inspiring them.
While essay, painting, speech and drama competitions along with tree plantation drives were held in various educational institutions of the district, plantation drives were conducted in government offices, too.
