The Forest department has agreed in principle to provide land, paving the way for the sports university to begin operations in the 2026 academic year, Sports minister Rekha Arya said. She said this on Thursday following a departmental review meeting.
Arya said that the Forest department had returned the proposal file two or three times. However, both parties have now reached a mutual agreement. She instructed officials to expedite the creation of positions for the university. Additionally, the foundation stone for the Women’s Sports College in Champawat was laid by the Prime Minister during the State’s silver jubilee celebrations. Arya instructed officials to prepare for classes to start at this college next year.
She also said that all funds under the Chief Minister’s Emerging Player Upgradation Scheme and the Chief Minister’s Player Incentive Scheme have been disbursed to beneficiaries through October. Officials were further directed to seek further budgetary support.
“To provide out-of-turn employment to medal winners, the Sports department will submit a proposal to the government to create all necessary positions within the department,” she stated. The Sports minister expressed concern over past negative experiences with out-of-turn employment in other departments and emphasised that the majority of these positions should be allocated within the Sports department.
During the meeting, she also voiced her dissatisfaction with the fact that the Sports department has not yet received the Rs one per bottle cess from the Excise department and urged officials to take immediate action on this matter.
