Campaign to register young voters in Doon

Concerned at  no substantial increase in the number of young voters aged 18 and 19 years old in the Dehradun district, the district magistrate and election officer R Rajesh Kumar has directed officials to run a three-day campaign from Tuesday in all educational institutions for the registration of the new voters.

Kumar informed that there are about 59,045 voters in the district in the age group of 18-19 years who are yet to be registered as the voters. The administration has the target to register 5,465 voters in Chakrata, 5,332 in Vikasnagar, 6,093 in Sahaspur, 5,975 in Dharampur, 5,560 in Raipur, 6,239 in Rajpur, 6,385 in Dehradun cantonment, 6,130 in Mussoorie, 5423 in Doiwala and 6443 in Rishikesh.

He has directed all the sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) to ensure that all the booth level officers (BLOs) make visits to all kinds of educational institutions including government, aided and private universities, colleges and schools to register the students who have or will be 18 years old by January 1, 2022. He instructed that the BLOs must coordinate with the administration of such education bodies to facilitate the registration process of the new voters. He also directed the district programme officer (DPO) Akhilesh Mishra to run awareness campaigns to encourage locals for registration in the electoral roll.
