The Samajwadi Party State in-charge Abdul Mateen Siddiqui met the Kumaon commissioner Deepak Rawat along with the delegation to restore the special bazaar set here every Saturday. This weekly market was started in 2005 in Haldwani and was considered to be the biggest such bazaar in Kumaon. Siddiqui told Rawat that in the past the municipal authority used to charge Rs 20 fee from each vendor but now under the contract system, the contractor charges Rs 200 from each vendor. Due to this, the poor traders haven’t been able to set shop here for about six weeks. The poor residents are also suffering as they were earlier able to get various items for cheap from this bazaar, said Siddiqui. He requested Rawat to cancel the contract system, responding to which the commissioner assured him of assistance in the matter.
