PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
The authorities in Dehradun will add six more electric vehicles to its Sakhi cab shuttle service that will connect Paltan Bazaar, Rajpur Road and the secretariat route. Five designated drop and pickup points have already been set up and the upcoming shuttle vehicles will operate under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The officials informed that under the district administration’s automated parking project, two new Tata Punch EVs have been deployed to provide free transport for vehicle owners parking in automated facilities. The service helps commuters reach busy areas near the city centre. Six additional EVs will soon be added to the fleet. The automated parking project aims to improve parking management and reduce congestion. The Parade Ground automated parking facility is being operated by the Krishna Self-Help Group from Vikasnagar under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM). Three automated parking facilities have been built at Parade Ground, Tibetan Market and district hospital, with a combined capacity of 261 vehicles. These facilities will soon be inaugurated for public use. The free shuttle service currently covers areas within a five kilometre radius of Clock Tower, Subhash Road, Gandhi Park and Parade Ground. Vehicles parked illegally on roads will now face strict action. A dedicated crane has been deployed for towing unauthorised vehicles, as per the officials.
