The short film festival ‘WAVES’ began in Graphic Era Hill University here on Friday. The CEO, Uttarakhand Film Development Council, Bansidhar Tiwari said that in today’s era, content is the true foundation—whether in cinema, journalism or social media. ‘Short films are a strong medium to portray our culture, traditions and values,” he said while exhorting the students to stay rooted and create meaningful stories instead of merely consuming content.

The three-day festival will feature around 55 short films, documentaries and music videos based on social, cultural and human themes, showcasing the creativity of young filmmakers across the country. On the first day, 22 short films, including Pieces of Partition, Darmiyaan, The Scent of Tulsi, Selfie Please and Empty, were screened.

The joint CEO, UFDC, Nitin Upadhyay also addressed the programme.  Among the dignitaries present were the director, Anmol Ajgaonkar and the vice chancellor, Graphic Era Hill University, Amit R Bhatt.
