Shining Star School, located in Corbett Tiger Reserve, has been presented with the Earthian National Award under the Earthian Sustainability Programme run by the Wipro Foundation. The award recognises the school’s innovative efforts in promoting practical environmental conservation among its students and the surrounding community, said the founder of the school, D S Negi
Addressing a press conference held at the school, he said that his school has, for a long time, integrated biodiversity conservation, waste management and eco-friendly lifestyles as an essential part of its educational approach.
Key initiatives undertaken by the school include waste segregation at source, the use of cloth and paper bags as alternatives to single-use plastic and the promotion of household composting as an effective and practical solution, he noted.
During the programme, students also delivered presentation conveying a strong message of environmental protection. Through them, the children highlighted the increasing destruction of nature, the impact of human activities on the environment and both the benefits and adverse effects of excessive use of technology.
