Shastradhara Murder-Police clueless on suspects

Samarjahan shot dead on Tuesday night was in a live-in relationship with a businessman and had recently shifted to Dehradun from Roorkee.

Police are clueless about the number and identity of criminals in the sensational murder of a woman in a Sahastradhara Road locality in the provisional state capital. The deceased, Samarjahan (23) who was shot thrice on Tuesday night was in a live-in relationship with businessman Rakesh Kumar Gupta and had recently shifted to Dehradun from Roorkee.

Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Nivedita Kukreti on Wednesday told the mediapersons, “The cause of death will be cleared after the post mortem report. Prima facie death occurred due to the bullets fired at her. We are trying to get in touch with her relatives. She shifted here just 15 days before, so we are questioning everyone with whom she was in contact with. We are also trying to trace her former husband. A team has been sent to the area where she used to live earlier in order to collect more information.”

She further added that, “Prima facie, we think illicit relationship is the motive behind the murder. Interrogation is still undergoing.”

Sub Inspector of Rajpur police station, Umesh Kumar who is also the Investigation Officer ( IO) in this case said, “We will get the post mortem report on Thursday. It is still too early to say that there was only one person or more than one person in the car from which the miscreants fired at the woman”

When asked about the CCTV Footage and the car that was used in the crime he said, “We are reviewing the footage. The car in question has not been identified yet.”

As per the sources, the absence of street lights made it difficult for the eye witnesses to properly identify the colour or company of the car used. It is learnt that the police is working on the theory in which there are three prime suspects in the case, former husband of the deceased, divorced wife of Rakesh Kumar Gupta and, some illicit relationship of the deceased.
