Several leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) resigned from the membership of the party in Badrinath on Thursday stating that the party leaders in the state are compromising on the core values propagated by the party’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal. The members handed over their collective resignation to the co in-charge of AAP Rajiv Chaudhary on Thursday.

This commotion started when the state in-charge of AAP Dinesh Mohaniya released the fourth list of candidates for assembly elections on Tuesday declaring Bhagwati Prasad Mandoli as its candidate from the Badrinath assembly seat. According to the secretary of AAP Badrinath Assembly executive member Kuldeep Singh Negi, the party has selected such a candidate from Badrinath who is an outsider and has not contributed anything to the party’s progress in the area. He told The Pioneer, “We have been working day and night for AAP for over two and a half years and the senior party members should have chosen somebody from the party workers and not somebody who has contributed nothing to the party. It is completely against what Kejriwal believes and propagates but some senior leaders are not following  his ideas here.”

The district president of the party’s executive Anoop Chauhan also said that the party members will return if the party reconsiders the name of the candidate.

The party’s co in-charge Rajeev Chaudhary said that the party has selected Mandoli as the candidate on the basis of his merit and as per the standard procedure of the party. He said that Mandoli was associated with politics in college and has worked for the welfare of students. He said, “The other candidates who were being considered as candidates were equally eligible but the party can offer candidature to only one person. It is not a big issue and the party will talk to the party workers and convince them.”
