PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun
The Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said the government is establishing 20 model colleges in the State. He said that women’s hostels, modern IT labs, and new examination buildings are being constructed in the colleges of the State. He was virtually addressing the felicitation ceremony organized at Kanhaiya Lal DAV College, Roorkee on Friday.
The CM said that a teacher is a guiding light, shaping society’s consciousness. A society where teachers are safe, respected, and satisfied is the one that progresses and reaches the pinnacle of prosperity. He said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government is continuously working to improve the level of education in the State, prioritizing the interests of teachers and students. We are also working at many levels to make the education system more modern, practical, and well-organized, he said.
Dhami stated that the government does not want to limit the education system to exams and degrees, but rather aims to advance the State’s youth in the fields of employment and self-employment by linking it with skill development. The government has made its priorities clear by implementing the new education policy, the first in the country. Under the new education policy, many new courses such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data are now being introduced in our universities.
We have signed an agreement with the UK for the Chevening Uttarakhand Scholarship. Under this agreement, five of the most talented students will be sent to the UK for a Masters degree. These students will get enrolment in the 100 top-ranked institutions in the country and the State government will provide them with an incentive of Rs 50,000, he said.
The CM stated that the state government is working to ensure that Uttarakhand’s youth become not only job seekers but also job creators through start-ups. “Along with strengthening the infrastructure in Uttarakhand’s colleges, work is also underway to establish nine new colleges. The State government is also providing special incentive awards for the publication of outstanding research papers,’’ he said.
The CM added that the State has implemented the country’s strictest anti-copying law and more than 100 copying mafias are behind bars. In the past four and a half years, more than 26,000 youth have received government jobs in a transparent manner. This number represents more than two-thirds of the total appointments made by any government since the state’s formation, he said.
The CM said that the State government has decided to abolish the Madrasa Board in the State. “After July 1, 2026, only those Madrasas will operate in Devbhoomi that teach the modern syllabus prescribed by the government; otherwise, they will be closed. Our effort is to provide quality education in accordance with established standards in the state’s educational institutions. The purpose of education should be to guide children towards their overall development and a bright future, not to push them towards a 500-year-old tribal mentality,’’ he said.
Rajya Sabha MP Kalpana Saini, MLA Pradeep Batra, principal Mahendrapal Singh, and others were present on the occasion
